Safety Coordinator

Safety is a priority for Diversity Saves in our events and programming. We consider it a foundational requirement when creating space for marginalized content creators to speak about and engage with TTRPG spaces. A Safety Coordinator (SC) will act as a non-cast/non-panelist 3rd party who facilitates the safety tools and discussions as well as mediates any issues. The SC will also act as a bridge to allow anonymous concerns or complaints to be brought up.

Training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Community Showcases

  • Familiarize everyone with the boundaries of the conversation based on provided lines and veils topics provided by guests and host.
  • Attend recording of the episode
    • Listen in on the conversation and intervene if boundaries are crossed and no action is being taken.
  • Provide a post event summary on any issues that arose.

Game Live Streams

  • Discuss with Game Master for inherent topics in the game being played.
  • Facilitate filling out safety tools spreadsheet before Session Zero.
  • Attend Session Zero and lead the discussion around safety tools and lines/veils.
  • Communicate safety tools and lines/veils with new players added after session zero.
  • Be present during the live game and be available to respond and intervene if safety is not properly followed or mediate if needed.
  • Provide a post-event summary on any issues that arose.

 

What We’re Looking for…

  • Comfort in one-on-one engagement with players, GMs, and Board Staff
  • Familiarity with TTRPG Safety Tools, Common Triggers and Phobias…
  • Ability to multi-task during Live events to engage with game/event and track private messages
  • Open and flexible availability for future Diversity Saves engagements and events
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations with care, kindness, and clarity.

 

Commitment

Volunteer Safety Coordinators will be assigned one event at a time and the frequency of assignments will depend on the number of volunteers.

Recording Sessions and Session Zeros are scheduled using availability polls and your availability for scheduling will be considered. 

Per event time estimate:

Community Showcase: Cumulatively 5 hours over multiple weeks

Game Live Streams: Cumulatively 8 hours over multiple weeks
